Most luxury vinyl plank and tile features a click-lock installation system that allows planks to float over the subfloor. This method requires no nails, staples, or adhesive and allows for a fast, clean installation.
The subfloor must be clean, dry, and level within 3/16 inch over 10 feet. LVT can be installed directly over most existing hard surfaces including concrete, tile, and vinyl. Carpet must be removed before installation.
Expansion gaps are maintained around the perimeter and at transitions to allow for natural movement. Unlike laminate, quality SPC products have minimal expansion and contraction, so gaps can be smaller.
Glue-down LVT installation provides the most stable, permanent result. This method is preferred in large commercial spaces and areas with heavy rolling loads like offices with desk chairs.
