Laminate flooring uses a floating click-lock installation method. Planks snap together and float over the subfloor without nails, glue, or staples. An underlayment layer provides cushioning and moisture protection.

The subfloor must be clean, dry, and level within 3/16 inch over 10 feet. A moisture barrier may be required over concrete subfloors. Laminate can be installed over most existing hard floors, including vinyl and tile.

Installation begins along the straightest, most visible wall. Planks are staggered by at least 6 inches between rows for a natural appearance and structural integrity. End joints are offset to prevent H-patterns.

Expansion gaps of 1/4 to 3/8 inch are maintained around all walls, columns, and fixed objects. These gaps allow the floor to expand and contract naturally with temperature and humidity changes. Baseboards and transition moldings conceal the gaps.
