When Is the Best Time of Year to Install Hardwood Floors?

While hardwood floors can be installed any time of year, certain seasons offer advantages for St. Louis homeowners.

Fall and spring are generally considered ideal for hardwood installation. Moderate temperatures and humidity levels create optimal conditions for acclimation and installation. The wood settles into a middle ground that minimizes seasonal movement.

Summer installations work well with proper climate control. Running air conditioning maintains appropriate temperature and humidity levels. However, St. Louis summers can bring extreme humidity, so monitoring conditions is important.

Winter installations require adequate heating and possibly humidification. Dry winter air causes wood to contract, so maintaining 35 to 55 percent relative humidity is essential during and after installation.

Regardless of season, proper acclimation is critical. Hardwood flooring should sit in your home for at least 72 hours before installation, allowing it to adjust to your indoor environment.

Kelly's Flooring installs hardwood year-round in the St. Louis area. Our experienced team monitors conditions carefully and takes the necessary precautions to ensure a flawless installation regardless of the season.
