Tile Floor Maintenance Tips: Keep Your Floors Looking New

Tile floors are among the easiest to maintain, but proper care ensures they stay beautiful for decades. Follow these expert tips from Kelly's Flooring.

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and debris. Sand and grit can scratch even the hardest tile surfaces if left to accumulate. Pay special attention to entryways and high-traffic paths.

Mop with a pH-neutral tile cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus-based products) on natural stone, as they can etch and damage the surface. For ceramic and porcelain, most household cleaners are safe.

Grout maintenance is often the biggest challenge. Clean grout regularly with a dedicated grout cleaner and soft brush. Seal grout lines annually to prevent staining and moisture penetration.

Address stains promptly. Different stain types require different treatments. Oil-based stains respond to alkaline cleaners, while organic stains (coffee, tea) respond to hydrogen peroxide solutions.

Inspect grout and caulk lines periodically for cracks or deterioration. Damaged grout allows moisture to penetrate behind tiles, potentially causing loosening or mold growth. Repair any issues promptly.
