How to Choose Large Format Tiles

Large format tiles (typically 24x24 inches and larger) create dramatic, contemporary interiors with minimal grout lines. Here is what you need to know about choosing and installing them.

Large tiles require very flat subfloors. Even minor imperfections are magnified with large-format installations. Professional subfloor preparation, including self-leveling compound, is often necessary.

Fewer grout lines create a cleaner, more expansive look. This is especially effective in smaller spaces, where large tiles can make a room feel significantly bigger.

Consider the lip (lippage) between tiles. Large tiles are more prone to uneven edges due to slight warping from manufacturing. Using a tile leveling system during installation ensures a perfectly flat surface.
